SYDNEY: Sony Australia has announced that its managing director, Mr Shusuke Oshima, will leave the organisation to assume the role of vice president at Sony Latin America, and will be replaced by deputy managing director, Carl Rose.
Rose will take the reigns as MD for the beginning of the new Japanese Financial Year on April 1, while Mr Oshima will be based in Miami, USA, working with over 30 countries and eight subsidiaries.
“This is an extremely exciting time to take the helm at Sony Australia,” said Rose in a statement issued this afternoon.
“With a refreshed global vision, rejuvenated brand and new technologies hitting our shores, my aim is to build on Mr Oshima’s considerable legacy, and ensure Sony Australia delivers excellence in every area, to consistently be the leading consumer electronics company in this country.
“Mr Oshima’s leadership saw Sony Australia strengthen its relationships with our Sony sister companies, business partners and customers to lead the company into a very strong position in the Australian market.”
Rose’s promotion to the top job comes just one day short of a year after Current.com.au reported his return to Sony Australia after a three year stint with Sony in the UK.
An Englishman by birth, Rose has worked between Sony Australia and Sony UK for 21 years since being hired by the company as product manager – audio accessories in the UK in 1986.
Rose was first transferred to Sony Australia in 1996 where he became director of consumer AV-IT channel and home network products marketing.
In April 2003, Rose was transferred back to Sony UK to assume the role of marketing director across all of the company’s consumer AV-IT product categories.
In the UK, Rose worked for Steve Dowdle, the same man who first hired him as product manager – audio accessories in 1986.
Mr Oshima joined Sony in 1984 in the international marketing department and has previously held positions in the Latin American market including president for Sony Venezuela and manager for the Latin America division within the area and network business strategy department.
Mr Oshima moved to the Asia Pacific region when he assumed the role of director for the area management office within the Pan Asia management office for Sony Electronics based in Singapore, before stepping into the managing director remit for Sony Australia in April 2005.
