Fresh off its international unveiling at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week, Samsung showed off the newest addition to its Galaxy product line-up at the Samsung Regional Forum in Jakarta today — the 8-inch Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet.
Billed as the “world’s first” 8-inch tablet, the Note 8.0 has been launched with the goal to “re-ignite the mid-size tablet category” according to Samsung.

Speaking at today’s launch vice president of Mobile Business for Samsung Indonesia, Andreas Moritz Rompis, said the Note 8.0 was set to become another key part of the globally successful Galaxy mobile device line-up.
“Mobile is a space where we have seen such success,” he said of the Galaxy sub-brand. “1 in 4 phones sold around the world last year was a Samsung. And Galaxy SIII is the world’s best-selling smartphone, with more than 30 million sold around the world to date.”
As an addition to the Galaxy range, the Note 8.0 combines features previously seen in other Galaxy products, such as the S Pen, Samsung AllShare Play and the S Planner app. The device also offers a dedicated Reading Mode that optimises it as an e-reader, making it an all-in-one device that meets multiple consumer needs according to Moritz Rompis.
“The Galaxy Note 8.0 is a device that combines a tablet, a Note, a diary and an ebook,” he said. “It is designed to dramatically change how people move throughout their world.”
“It is designed to remove all the barriers and give us the freedom to move. The portable factor of this tablet redefines how we watch, how we play, how we listen and how we read.”
The Note 8.0 features a 1.6GHz A9 quad-core processor with 2GB RAM, a WXGA TFT screen (1280 x 800 resolution) and Android 4.1.2 operating system (Jellybean), and is available in both 16GB and 32GB models.
It is set to be released in Australia in Q2 2013, with pricing yet to be confirmed.
