Samsung Electronics Australia has announced the appointment of a new managing director for the local subsidiary following the departure of former managing director SR Yoon at the end of last year. Yoon has returned to the company’s global head office in Seoul, Korea, to work in Samsung’s Digital Appliance business.

Jae Hoon Kwon has been appointed to the MD role, responsible for overseeing “the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of Samsung’s business in Australia” according to the company. Kwon joins the Australian business after holding positions at Samsung Electronics Malaysia, and working as Asia sales and marketing group leader in the company’s Digital Appliance division.

According to a statement from Samsung Australia:

Mr. Kwon brings with him more than 20 years of expertise in the consumer electronics industry at both managerial and sales and marketing levels. With his broad experience in consumer electronics, Mr. Kwon has a wealth of knowledge and experience that spans much of the Asia Pacific region.

Speaking about the role, the new MD said:

I am very excited to be joining an exceptionally talented team that has taken the Samsung brand from strength-to-strength in this market. This year promises to be yet another year of impressive innovation for Samsung and I look forward to helping lead Samsung to even greater heights.
