Panasonic has launched its 2015 camcorder range, consisting of six models, including two with the ability to film precious memories in stunning 4K Ultra HD resolution.
A further advancement in camcorder technology sees three models in Panasonic’s new range featuring High Dynamic Range Movie functionality. This means that the camcorder is capturing twice as many still as normal (50 instead of 25) and then combining them in real time to produce the most lifelife, vivid footage imaginable. This feature is included on both of Panasonic’s new 4K camcorders and, in a self-styled world first, on one of the new Full HD models (HC-V770, RRP $849).
“Our new camcorders offer affordable 4K shooting, allowing families to capture their world in stunning cinematic quality,” said senior product manager Doug Campbell. “HDR recording ensures detail in both light and dark areas is preserved in high-contrast scenes, whether you are capturing blowing out the candles on the birthday cake or a beachside picnic.”
The two new 4K models are the HC-WX970 (RRP $1,349) and the HC-VX870 (RRP $999). Both these models have 25x intelligent zoom and 20x optical zoom. The major difference between these two video cameras is that the more expensive WX970 includes Panasonic’s Twin Camera feature. This means a second camera is located at the edge of the LCD screen, so the person operating the camera can film themselves, including their own reactions in a picture-in-picture effect. The screen is hinged so this second camera can be pointed away from both the subject and the filmmaker to record a scene that would otherwise be out of shot.
“For greater creative freedom when capturing memorable moments, the Twin Camera lets the filmmaker put themselves in the scene, show crowd reactions, and capture both close-up and wide angle viewpoints,” Campbell said.
This feature is also present on Panasonic’s HC-W570 Full HD model, which packs a 90x intelligent zoom and a 50x optical zoom (RRP $599).
The two entry level models in the new range are the HC-V270 (RRP $399) and the HC-V160 (RRP $299). The main difference between these two models is in zooming: the V270 has 90x/50x intelligent/optical zoom, while the V160 is packing only 77x/38x.
