Samsung has been very active in the flat panel category recently with the unveiling of its “new species” LED TVs as well as a strong line-up of LCD panels, but in order to not play favourites it has just announced a new range of plasma TVs, including the flagship Series 8.

“This new range shows the bright future Samsung plasma screens have in front of them. The latest range of plasma televisions not only provides stunning picture quality, but a slimness and form factor which is leaps and bounds in front of what we’ve seen from the plasma industry to date,” said Mark Leathan, head of consumer electronics marketing, Samsung Electronics Australia.

Leathan expressed that the new range can cater for a wide range of consumers.

“Samsung plasma TVs provides consumers with exceptional choice whatever their taste or budget. While the Series 8 is a product everyone aspires to own, we’ve provided an attractive range of products that offers huge choice to anyone looking to purchase a plasma television in 2009.”

The entire range features 600Hz Subfield Motion, is environmentally conscious and have improved dynamic contrast ratios up to 3,000,000:1.

The premium Series 8 model is the standout release in the new range and measures in at just over 2.5 centimetres in depth, to make it the world’s slimmest Full HD plasma.

The new model also features Samsung’s Medi@2.0 solution, Internet@TV for online access to YouTube and widgets, DLNA Wireless, Content Library Flash and USB 2.0.

The series 8 is available in 50” and 58” for RRP $4,299 and $5,999 respectively.
