Rdio (from $8.90 per month)
Comfortably the best music streaming service available in Australia, Rdio has desktop and web programs for PC and Mac, as well as apps for all major smartphones and tablets. The integrated social media and sharing functions make for a collaborative music experience while the unmatched catalogue of songs is always growing. In a saturated marketplace, Rdio may not be the cheapest, but it is the best.
Samsung Galaxy Note
The surprise hit of the 2012 smartphone scene, the Galaxy Note was expected to be popular in Samsung’s native Korea but few predicted how enamoured Australia would become with a smartphone sporting such a super sized screen. Samsung has fast-tracked the Galaxy Note II to Australia to keep the customer’s satisfied, but the credit must go to this ‘phablet’ for distinguishing itself from the hundreds of Android handsets available.
Nintendo Wii U (from $349)
The first major gaming console launch since the PS3 in 2006, Nintendo is looking to reclaim the mindshare of gamers lost after the disappointing response to the 3DS. The original Wii is the biggest selling gaming console in history so Nintendo is prediction big sales for its replacements, which includes handheld gaming control that works both as a complement to the TV and as a standalone device.
