NSW Police have charged a man that worked in a Sydney department store, for allegedly stealing $250,000 worth of electrical goods from its home entertainment section.
The 35-year-old Granville man allegedly worked in the home entertainment and computer section of the retail store at George Street. A reported $250,000 worth of stock was said to be stolen from January to June 2009.
The man allegedly sold the stolen items to a Sydney pawn shop; among the most popular items were Apple iPods and laptops.
The man was arrested on Friday evening by police from the Redfern Region Enforcement Squad, who allegedly witnessed the man removing an iPod from a cabinet and concealing it under his jacket.
He was charged with one count of larceny as a clerk, four counts of disposing of stolen property and four counts of making false statements in relation to disposing of $10,000 worth of stolen property.
Conditional bail was granted to the man, who is set to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on 3 August 2009.
