To a packed Sydney crowd.

It was not close to the estimated 2,700 media attendees at the global launch in London, but Huawei packed in the crowd as it kicked off its biggest ever launch in Australia for the Mate20 Series smartphones.

Speaking at the event, held at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art, managing director for Huawei consumer business, Larking Huang said it has been a phenomenal year of growth for the tech giant with 200 million smartphones expected to be sold globally by year end.

“There has been unprecedented worldwide demand for the smartphone since its release in October,” he said. “Sales in Australia surpassed expectations and it has been the most successful launch for Huawei to date, with all pre-order offers completely sold out within days of being announced.”

As a result Huawei has extended its exclusive pre-order bonus. Customers who purchase a Mate20 will receive a pair of Huawei FreeBud wire-free headphones, while those purchasing the Mate20 Pro receive an additional wireless supercharger. The offer ends on November 9.

Huawei is embarking on a major campaign encompassing TV and outdoor signage and channel partner cooperative advertising taking in TV, catalogue, digital, social and print.

Huang also announced that Huawei would release its first notebook, the Microsoft MateBook X Pro on November 22.  The ultra-slim notebook features a 13.9-inch, 3K LTPS Gorilla Glass touchscreen with anti-fingerprint coating for watching shows in HD detail.  It comes with an 8th generation Intel Core processor for faster photo and video editing, a full-size spill-proof keyboard and 8GB of memory.
