SYDNEY, NSW: 2011 is rapidly proving to be the year of the HTC smartphone, with the manufacturer today announcing the release of its new offering, the HTC Evo 3D.

In just over two months, HTC has held glitzy launches for the Wildfire S and Desire S, the Facebook-friendly Cha Cha and Salsa smartphones and the hotly-anticipated Sensation. Now the Evo 3D has entered the fold, offering users the ability to capture and view 3D content without specialised glasses, much like the LG Optimus 3D, which was launched last month.

According to Ben Hodgson, Country Manager, HTC Australia and New Zealand, the new phone is “pushing the limits of innovation, bringing the best technology and more choice to our Australian customers.

“This beautifully designed and powerful device continues the HTC tradition of putting the customer first in everything we do,” said Hodgson. “It opens new frontiers for all customers looking to add a new dimension to their viewing experience.

“3D has revolutionised the way customers experience content and the highly-customisable HTC EVO 3D will change the way customers interact with their devices and how they create and share their experiences with friends and family.”

The Evo 3D features a 4.3-inch qHD screen with a 3D display that allows users to enjoy 3D content, unimpeded by glasses. Some content (including a 3D movie and 3D games) comes pre-loaded on the device, and further content will be available for purchase from HTC’s video streaming service, HTC Watch, when it becomes available in Australia later in 2011.

For users wanting to shoot their own Avatar-inspired 3D material, the Evo 3D also features dual 5 megapixel cameras for capturing 3D photos and 720p HD movies, as well as a 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera.

The phone features DLNA connectivity for streaming content wirelessly to other compatible devices such as televisions, cameras and printers. By attaching an HDMI cable (not included with the phone), users will also be able to share their 3D content with a 3D TV.

The device is driven by a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core processor, which makes “the HTC EVO 3D the most advanced phone to be introduced by HTC to date”.

As with the stable of HTC smartphones that precede it, the Evo 3D will feature the HTC Sense user interface that builds on the Android Gingerbread 2.3.4 operating system.

The HTC Evo 3D will be available from mid-September, with pricing and plans to be announced in the coming weeks.
