MELBOURNE: At the gala dinner in Melbourne last night, Harvey Norman honoured the upcoming retiremement of Alan Loughran and Alan Lanham as well as NEC general manager, Charles Carter.
The first special tribute was given to Alan Loughran, who was credited with setting up Harvey Norman in Tasmania. Loughran, who took over from Gerry Harvey at Narta, reflected on his 43 years in the industry including the shift in the retailing industry from a local to a global market.
Alan ‘Lofty’ Lanham was also recognised for his 40 years of service working with Gerry Harvey and Harvey Norman. In his acceptance speech, Lanham told the younger proprietors to ask the older members of the industry for advice.
Harvey Norman’s Ross Morgan also recognised NEC general manager – sales, Charles Carter, who has announced his retirement on 1 September after 30 years at the Japanese consumer electronics company.
"Charlie is an icon, a gentleman and will be missed for his judgement, opinion and fairness," Morgan said.
