A waterproof smartphone? A jaffle iron that cuts vertically instead of diagonally? A refrigerator that dispenses sparkling water?
We’ve seen some amazing innovations in the appliance and consumer electronics categories recently — some big and some small — and all intended to inject value and customer satisfaction back into otherwise utilitarian devices.
Now, for the first time, Canstar Blue is looking to reward those companies that invest in improvements with the launch of the Innovation Excellence Awards. And, unlike other awards programs in the industry, Canstar Blue is actively courting consumer suggestions. As far as we are aware, no other major awards program includes a facility for consumers to nominate entrants; the others start with companies nominating themselves.
“We’re looking for the most innovative appliances and electronic products new to the Australian market, and consumers now have the chance to nominate the products that are helping to make lives that little bit easier, or just making them smile,” said Canstar Blue business unit leader Megan Doyle.
“We’re receiving applications directly from companies, but we’d also like to hear from the people who actually use their products or features in their busy day-to-day lives.”
Importantly, Canstar Blue is keeping the barriers to consumer engagement very low: nominations can be received via Canstar Blue’s website, Twitter account and Facebook page.
“We’re looking forward to seeing what fantastic new products are making their way into the Australian market and exciting consumers,” continued Doyle. “When we receive nominations from consumers we will then contact the company mentioned and invite them to complete an application form.”
The Canstar Blue Innovation Excellence Awards are open to entry until 15 August 2014. Canstar Blue will use experts to assess how innovative the nominations have been over the past 12 months. The innovation will be assessed over five variables: Unique, Disruptive, ‘Wow’, Breadth of Impact and Depth of Impact.
