IFA 2019 - Eingang Nord - - North Entrance -

Last week, IFA opened registrations for trade visitors, retailers, and distributors for the IFA 2020 Special Edition in Berlin from 3 to 5 September.

However, a number of major brands have confirmed that they will not be participating in this year’s new format, including Samsung, Harman, Hisense and TP Vision.

Making the decision to not attend IFA 2020, Samsung will instead host its own digital event.

“We have taken the exciting decision to share our latest news and announcements at our own digital event in early September. While Samsung will not be participating in IFA 2020, we look forward to our continued partnership with IFA in the future,” the company said in a statement to Appliance Retailer.

Samsung subsidiary, Harman, will host an online media presentation to showcase new product in the True Wireless, Portable, Partybox and Harman Kardon ranges. The presentation will be live on the Harman LinkedIn and Facebook pages with an invitation shared with each region for media to attend and will be available post-event.

Hisense has also made the decision to not participate in IFA 2020.

“With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing, Hisense has made the decision that it will not be attending IFA 2020. This decision has been made with the health and wellbeing of our employees and partners front of mind. IFA is a fantastic event and we look forward to supporting from afar and reengaging when it is safe to do so,” the company said in a statement to Appliance Retailer.

TP Vision will not be involved in IFA 2020 but will announce its product launch activity in a series of online events.

Starting on 1 September with a press conference hosted by Philips TV & Sound CEO for Europe, Kostas Vouzas, who will outline the company’s recent highlights, unveil new products and present details of future plans. TP Vision will then host live online technical seminars for invited media.

“IFA has always been a key part of TP Vision’s annual marketing plans. However, the potential risks posed to visitors, employees and partners by the uncertain pandemic situation has given the Philips TV & Sound team no choice but to make alternative plans,” the company said in a global statement.

LG is yet to confirm its participation, issuing the following statement to Appliance Retailer: “In light of the pandemic, we are still reviewing our second half plans and should have a decision regarding IFA in the next month.”

Panasonic Australia will not have representation at IFA 2020 due to travel restrictions. However, further information about the company’s involvement in Berlin is yet to be announced.
