BERLIN: After Sony spent a fortune on advertising the introduction of the ‘world first 200Hz’ televisions around IFA and greater Berlin, Samsung surprised its flat panel business partner by introducing a range of its own just 24 hours later.

The 200Hz televisions perform a similar processing role as the Sony televisions, whereby additional frames are inserted into the content using interpolation.

It appears as though Sony’s claim of being the world’s first 200Hz televisions will stand as they are likely to be first to market.

Samsung has slated 40-inch, 46-inch and 52-inch models using the 200Hz technology. A firm release date in Australia has not been confirmed, but it is likely local retailers will see them in the southern hemisphere in early- to mid-2009.

Current.com.au understands that this will be a small window of opportunity, however, as other brands are expected to prepare prototype models that feature either similar or identical technology by the CES show in Las Vegas in early 2009.
