HP and Intel have today launched a consumer competition in conjunction with the Big Day Out festival. The winning entrant will live the Hunter S Thompson life for a month, attending every concert as a live reporter.

Prospective gonzos are invited to record themselves reviewing the latest album from any of bands or artists on the 2009 line-up. The video can’t be longer than two minutes; just enough time to talk about how inspirational, moving, contemplative and progressive one’s selected choice is.

In addition to the Big Day Out reporter gig, the next Lester Bangs will also win an HP premium notebook and an HP iPAQ messenger. So they’ve got someone to talk to when being ignored by vainglorious and self-important rock stars, the winner gets to take a friend along for the ride.

Some of the artists that hopeful Bruce Elder wannabes can dissect include Neil Young, Arctic Monkeys, Prodigy, Youth Group and the Grates. That last band is particularly untalented.
