Makes debut in WA market.
digiDIRECT will open its seventh digital camera retail destination after acquiring the business and premises formerly trading as Gerry Gibbs Camera House in Cannington, Western Australia. This move represents the first foray away from the Australian Eastern seaboard.
digiDIRECT has re-employed Murray Gibbs and his staff and plans to commence trading under its banner from the week commencing August 15 which will be followed by a grand opening in due course.
digiDIRECT managing director Shant Kradjian (pictured), who had commenced discussions with Gerry and his son Murray Gibbs prior to their liquidation, saw potential in the business if it could be supported adequately by the digiDIRECT network of stores.
“I believe the business would benefit from the additional stock we could provide and would be supported by the digiDIRECT website, which is always looking to maintain its position among the market leaders by embracing innovative technology changes and associated marketing opportunities,” he said.
“It has always been part of our plan to establish a presence in Western Australia for digiDIRECT, and we are delighted to have found our home at 12 Cecil Avenue, Cannington. We can now truly identify as a national company,” he added.
Gerry Gibbs Camera House was founded in 1972 as Carousel Photographic, located in the Carousel Regional Shopping Centre. In 1976, the business moved to a separate location in the Carousel Centre (later Westfield Carousel) and eventually joined the Camera House buying group.
In 1997, Gerry Gibbs Camera House moved to a prominent standalone building across from Westfield Carousel, which is located in the Perth suburb of Cannington – approximately 12 kilometres from the Perth CBD.
Cannington WA is digiDIRECT’s seventh retail destination, with current locations including Melbourne CBD (VIC), Sydney CBD (NSW), Bondi Junction (NSW), Miranda (NSW), Chatswood (NSW), Brisbane (QLD), along with its web business, digidirect.com.au, based out of Melbourne.
