Sanyo Oceania has today announced the recall of almost 10,000 Convection Grill Microwave Ovens (EM-C8787B). These microwaves were sold in Target stores from July 2010 through until this month (January 2012).

In a statement released today, a Sanyo Oceania spokesperson said these ovens may cause “severe electric shock to the user during operation…due to some of the printed circuit boards within the internal control panel having electrical contact with the small buttons on the external control panel”.

Sanyo directs any affected consumer to immediately stop using the microwave oven and disconnect the plug from the power point. Customers should then contact Sanyo Oceania’s call centre (1800 063 747) to organise for a refund of the purchase price.

“Sanyo Oceania would like to express our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience that may have been caused to the customers concerned,” said the spokesperson.

This spokesperson further reported that Sanyo has commenced a broad media campaign to inform users of this recall.
