Apple announced earlier this morning the release of the new iPhone 3G S, which is touted as the fastest, most powerful iPhone yet. Among the new features are a 3 megapixel autofocus camera, video recording and hands free voice control.

The new handset also includes the new iPhone OS 3.0 installed and now offers twice the capacity with 16GB and 32GB models.

One of the key benefits that Apple is promoting about this new iPhone is the superior speed and performance, the company is claiming that it will on average be twice as fast as its predecessor.

The added benefit of a 3 megapixel autofocus camera now means that the model adjusts focus, exposure, colour and contrast for the best possible image and includes an automatic macro focus for extra close up shots. Video recording will now also be supported.

The other new feature on offer is voice control, where consumers can speak commands to control the unit. The built in microphone can now be used to dial by phone number or name, play your favourite music by artist, album or playlist and activate the Genius function by saying “play more songs like this’. You can also tell the iPhone to pause music, play the next track, turn on shuffle or ask what song is currently playing.

The new Apple iPhone 3G S will be available on 26 June 2009, pricing is still unconfirmed and will be available at launch. The new iPhone OS 3.0 will also be available on 26 June as a free download via iTunes for all iPhone customers and as a software update for iPod Touch customers for $14.95.
