Peter ‘Kambo’ Kambouris is the Australian consumer electronics latest franchisor having revealed that he has signed on six former West Australian Retravision members as new franchisees in his group.

In addition to these six, Kambo told Appliance Retailer that he is in discussion with six more potential recruits and has had to turn away four applicants who did not meet his criteria.

Kambo currently owns and operates two stores, in Malaga and Canning Vale. These stores are branded ‘Kambo’s’ — the new stores will be branded in a similar fashion to The Good Guys, with the franchisee’s name on the shingle; for example: ‘John Doe Kambo’s’.

“We have six stores signed up and we’re in discussion with six or seven at this stage,” Kambo told Appliance Retailer. “We haven’t released their names yet because there is a process that we’ve created with Narta.”

All of Kambo’s new stores are based in Western Australia. By concentrating his franchise system into one state, Kambo is able to maximise economies of scale on supply and distribution, media buying and marketing.

Kambo said his new franchise system was not limited to former Retravision members or even existing stores. He said that he was open to discussion with interested parties about joining the industry as a franchisor.

“I don’t expect many people to approach me but we have had two interested parties that are not  from the industry contact us,” he said. “One of those is scouring the area of Joondalup (in northern Perth).”

Originally a Retravision member, Kambo switched to Narta in October 2011. He praised the work of Narta executive chair Kay Spencer in facilitating this process.

“I think Narta has done a very moral and responsible thing for the industry,” he said.

Kambo said he was very much looking forward to Christmas and was optimistic about sales across the electrical categories. He highlighted small domestic appliances as a strong area, saying he expected brands such as Breville, Sunbeam, Tefal and De’Longhi to be standout performers.
