Samsung has held its latest Galaxy Unpacked event overnight, launching its latest flagship smartphone range: the Samsung Galaxy S22 series of handsets. The range includes the new Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra smartphones

Galaxy S22 / S22+

The Galaxy S22 is a 6.1-inch handset while the Galaxy S22+ is 6.6-inches. Both feature a Dynamic AMOLED 2X FHD+ Display with refresh rates that can adjust to the needs of the screen from 10Hz to 120Hz refresh, balancing battery power and smooth performance.

The S22 includes a 3,700mAh battery while the S22+ features 4,500mAh. Other differences include Wi-Fi 6 in the S22 and Wi-Fi 6E in the S22+, as well as higher powered charging for the S22+.

The focus of the upgrade for many buyers will be the new leap forward in camera technology, with four cameras in total on board.

The phones feature a 50-megapixel main camera, a 10MP 3x optical telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultrawide lens, with a 10MP front facing camera. They also feature Adaptive Pixel technology to take some of the best night photos yet seen, while AI Stereo Depth Mapping makes portrait photos look better than ever.

The Galaxy S22 and S22+ will both be available in Phantom White, Green and Pink Gold colour options.

Galaxy S22 Ultra

The new top of the range Samsung smartphone will be the Galaxy S22 Ultra, featuring a 6.8-inch screen, a higher resolution QHD+ display and a larger 5,000mAh battery.

The biggest shift for the S22 Ultra is the inclusion of a built-in S Pen for the first time in an S series phone, previously only found in the Galaxy Note.

“Galaxy S22 Ultra takes the beloved functionality of the Galaxy Note and the most celebrated aspects of the S series and merges them for a truly unique mobile experience. This is a leap forward for mobile technology, setting a new standard for what a smartphone can be,” Samsung Electronics president and head of MX (Mobile eXperience) Business, TM Roh said.

With an even sharper 108MP main camera in its camera array, the S22 Ultra camera system also includes access to Expert RAW shooting for users who want a DSLR-style experience from their smartphone.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra will come in Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green and Burgundy colour options.

All phones in the Galaxy S22 series are also guaranteed to receive four generations of Samsung One UI and Android OS upgrades as well as five years of security updates.
