The foldable category will become mainstream with increasing online search trends and indication of purchase intent, according to Samsung Electronics Australia vice president of mobile experience, Garry McGregor.

“We know there’s been a doubling in consideration for foldables among 18 to 45-year-olds and Gen-Z specifically showing a 273% increase since last year,” he said.

McGregor’s comments were made at a local pre-launch event for the latest series of Samsung Galaxy Z smartphones, Galaxy Watches and Buds, with pre-orders now available ahead of an on-sale date of 2 September 2022.

“We’re proud to have established this category and of where it has evolved to today. The journey has had its challenges but to overcome them, we listened and put feedback into action with improvements to all key areas from design, durability, usability, affordability, power, app optimisation and more,” he said.

“We’re interested in seeing how Australians take to Fold4 and Flip4 as a proven premium market. The form factor has a history of piquing the interest of those historically loyal to other brands. This is especially true for Flip with 28% of users activating a device having come from another ecosystem.”

Galaxy Fold4

The next generation Galaxy Z Fold4 delivers Samsung’s most comprehensive smartphone experience and is the first device to ship with Android 12L, a special version of Android created by Google for larger screens.

The new taskbar provides a PC-like layout for easier access to favourite and recent apps, while multitasking is more intuitive thanks to new swipe gestures that can switch full-screen apps to pop-up windows or split screen.

An upgraded 50MP wide lens and 30x space zoom lens are supported by a variety of camera modes including larger zoom map activated on capture view mode, dual preview and rear cam selfie. In addition, with the larger pixel size, a 23% brighter sensor and enhanced processing power, images taken at night are even clearer.

The Galaxy Z Fold4 features a slimmer hinge, lighter weight and narrower bezels, without compromising on the 7.6-inch main screen that offers a brighter screen, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and less visible Under Display Camera (UDC).

The Galaxy Z Fold4 is available for pre-order with RRPs starting from $2,499.

Galaxy Flip4

The Galaxy Z Flip4 delivers an upgraded camera experience, a larger battery and expanded customisation, while maintaining its compact clamshell design.

By partially folding the device, users activate FlexCam to shoot hands-free video or capture group selfies. Users can now take selfies from the cover screen by leveraging the main camera with the upgraded quick shot function.

The upgraded camera is equipped with a 65% brighter sensor powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform, making photos and videos crisper and more stable. Thanks to its expanded 3,700mAh battery and Super-Fast charging capabilities, users can charge up to 50% in around 30 minutes.

With a slimmer hinge, straightened edges and glossy metal frames, the design can be customised with Galaxy Themes on the cover and main screen using custom fonts, icons and designs. Users can now also create their own cover screen with new clock designs and backgrounds including images, GIFs and video.

The Galaxy Z Flip4 is available for pre-order with RRPs starting from $1,499.

With Armor Aluminum frames and hinge cover along with exclusive Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the cover screen and rear glass, Z Flip4 and Z Fold4 are Samsung’s toughest foldables to date. Durability of the main screen panel is enhanced thanks to the optimised layer structure, helping reduce damage from external shock. In addition, both Z Flip4 and Z Fold4 are equipped with IPX8 water resistance.

Galaxy Buds2 Pro

Samsung’s Galaxy Buds2 Pro promise the most immersive wireless audio experience with a new compact design and seamless connectivity. Superior Hi-Fi 24bit audio offers high dynamic range and crystal clear resolution. The new Samsung seamless codec (SSC HiFi) enables quality music to be transferred without a pause, while the new coaxial two-way speaker delivers richer sound.

The new ergonomic design is 15% smaller than its predecessor with a secure fit that is engineered to prevent rotation. Powerful ANC helps eliminate outside noise and the Buds2 Pro seamlessly switch the audio connection from a tablet to the phone when there’s an incoming call. In addition, SmartThings Find makes it easier to locate misplaced buds.

Galaxy Buds2 Pro come in three new soft and neutral hues – graphite, white and bora purple – and are available for $349.

Galaxy Watch5

The Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch5 Pro offers information to help users on their health and wellness journey by providing in-depth monitoring and practical data.

Galaxy Watch5 is equipped with Samsung’s unique BioActive Sensor that uses a single chip to combine optical heart rate, electrical heart signal and bioelectrical impedance analysis to deliver readings that include heart rate, blood oxygen level and stress level. In addition, users can monitor blood pressure and ECG. With an increased surface area and more direct contact with the wrist, Galaxy Watch5 tracks health metrics with greater accuracy than Galaxy Watch4.

Offering a comprehensive end-to-end experience beyond fitness activities and into post-workout, rest, and recovery, the body composition measurement tool helps provide a complete snapshot of overall health, providing a tailored approach to set goals, personalised workouts, and track progress. In addition, it delivers post-cardio heart rate data and customised recommendations on water consumption based on sweat loss.

Users can better understand sleep patterns through sleep scores that monitor stages of sleep, along with snore detection and blood oxygen levels. Advanced sleep coaching provides a tailored month-long guided program.

With a 13% larger battery, users will receive eight hours of sleep tracking with just eight minutes of charging – which is 30% faster than Galaxy Watch4. It is the first smartwatch display to feature a sapphire crystal display.
