While CES is not immediately associated with whitegoods and appliance launches, selected brands are using the technology expo to showcase their latest smart appliances to keen consumers and retail representatives.
Following on from the announcement earlier in the week of a new range of internet-enabled products from LG, Current.com.au has taken a look at the newest products from Samsung, boasting high-tech features and enhancements.
Kevin Dexter, senior vice president of home appliance sales and marketing for Samsung Electronics America, said that “when it comes to appliances in the kitchen, Samsung is only getting smarter.”
“We’re listening closely to consumers and building on our recent new product successes with improvements that busy moms want,” he said.
Samsung announced the addition of a new Grocery Manager app to two of its refrigerators – the French Door RF4289 and side-by-side RSG309. “This app will be featured on the refrigerators’ 8-inch Wi-Fi enabled LCD colour touch screen and will allow consumers to track the expiration time of perishables. They can even set convenient reminders to use the food, minimising spoilage.”
Samsung also announced that 2012 would see the arrival of a new appliance that combines its Flex Duo Oven with an induction cooking surface. The oven itself features a Smart Divider in the cavity, allowing users to split the oven into two different cooking zones that can be set at different temperatures.
It also offers an induction surface that features “Samsung’s Flex Cookzone which allows for multiple pan configurations or use of a large pot…that would normally not fit on a standard sized heating element.” The new Flex Duo Oven is due to be released in the 2012 northern hemisphere summer.

In the laundry appliances category, Samsung used CES to debut the Wi-Fi enabled WF457 Front-Loading Washer. The machine features a Smart Control system that allows users to “monitor cycle selections, remaining time and finishing alerts, as well as remotely start or pause the washer” with the help of a wireless connection and an accompanying smartphone application.
The machine also boasts the industry’s largest capacity (in a non-commercial machine) according to Samsung, with room to hold up to 31 bath towels.
“Samsung’s strategy is to enable consumers to be more connected and organized through their household devices and appliances, and we’re now extending that connectivity right into the laundry room,” said Dexter.
