LG Electronics is set to showcase its new Universal UP Kit at IFA in Berlin from 1 to 5 September 2023. A collection of home appliance accessories and add-ons embracing universal design, the kit enhances usability for individuals facing physical challenges, exemplifying the company’s vision of a more inclusive future.

Customers can integrate Universal UP Kit products into a range of existing compatible LG home appliances in refrigeration, floorcare, laundry care and dishwasher categories, removing the need for replacing or upgrading.

To aid in developing the Universal UP Kit, LG sought insights on experiences and challenges faced by individuals with hearing or vision impairments and health conditions such as cerebral palsy, when using various home appliances. LG compiled, categorised and analysed the feedback, shaping the foundation of the Universal UP Kit design.

The Universal UP Easy Handle Kit comes with detachable handles for the door and detergent drawer for LG washing machines. The handles facilitate accessibility for users with diminished manual dexterity or wrist strength to grasp the pocket handles. The kit also offers high-contrast colour options created to accommodate individuals with certain eye conditions.

Other aid kits from the Universal UP portfolio includes the Assistant Kit. This detachable, wheeled strut redistributes the weight of the LG CordZero stick vacuum, offering enhanced control and manoeuvrability. The Easy Hanger Kit introduces a long handle with a circular grip to the Styler’s clothes hangers, helping wheelchair users place them on the Moving Hanger system at the top of the LG Styler.
