Consumers and small businesses looking to rid themselves of end-of-life televisions and computers can now drop off their obsolete products at TechCollect centres in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.

TechCollect is the brand name for the Australia and New Zealand Recycling Platform’s (ANZRP) waste disposal centres as part of its obligations as an approved recycler under the new TV and PC recycling scheme. The other two approved recyclers are DHL and E-Cycle Solutions.

At the launch of the first TechCollect site in Victoria last went, Senator Don Farrell, Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and Urban Water, said he was happy this scheme was helping to remove dangerous materials from homes and footpaths.

“Thanks to this scheme, hazardous materials including lead, mercury and zinc will be prevented from entering the environment and valuable non-renewable resources, including gold and other precious metals will be recovered for reuse,” Senator Farrell said.

This sentiment was supported by ANZRP CEO Carmel Dollisson.

“ANZRP, on behalf of our members, is delighted to introduce this free nationwide recycling service, which will assist in significantly reducing the volume of e-waste that ends up in landfill,” she said. “We encourage householders and small businesses to dispose of their end of life (EOL) televisions and computer products in an environmentally sustainable way, which TechCollect is able to guarantee.”
