Speaking about his new position, Barendson said he was looking forward to overcoming the recent challenges Sony has faced as the company moves into a new year.

“2011 has been a monumental year for Sony,” he said. “The company has been challenged on so many fronts. In spite of this, Australia has proven to be a strong and robust market for Sony and I’m looking forward to being part of its growth as we move into Christmas and 2012.”

The former GM of consumer marketing at Sony Australia, Toby Barbour, left the company in May after deciding to start up his own business.
