Sharp Australia announced that it would expand its small appliance range beyond microwaves and debut in the floorcare category for the first time in Australia, Tempo executives confirmed with Appliance Retailer.

The new products, including an air fryer, are expected to be available from Q1 2021.

The announcement came as Sharp appointed Tempo the local distributor of its microwaves, adding to Tempo’s existing portfolio of Sharp air conditioners, air purifiers, refrigeration and laundry.

Tempo Australia general manager for appliances, Craig Handley said Sharp has great brand awareness and trust among consumers and is now in a position to offer a more comprehensive suite of products.

“We are excited to announce the Sharp portfolio will extend into small appliances and floorcare – a first for Sharp in Australia and positioning us alongside the rest of the world,” he told Appliance Retailer at the time of the announcement in August.

Sharp-developed technology such as Plasma Cluster, which eliminates bacteria and viruses, found in 2020 air purification and refrigeration ranges will also be seen in additional categories in the future.

“The Sharp brand won’t stop at these current categories and already in the pipeline is a full range of built-in cooking products with specific ranges for retail and commercial markets, with accompanying dishwashers that we are confident will make an impact. Few brands can cover such a broad category offer with the strength and history of the Sharp brand,” Handley said.

Tempo general manager for Sharp, Michael Richardson added, “Now having a full suite of products and ongoing development positions us to truly partner with key retailers and embrace the journey together. The legacy of the brand is strong and combined with Tempo’s efficient cost structure, best practice logistics and customer service, I believe we offer retailers real long-term opportunities. I am genuinely excited for the journey ahead.”
