SYDNEY: Fujitsu General has become the principal sponsor of the not-for-profit Sporting Chance cancer foundation.

Sporting Chance was formed in 1998 by former Australian sports identities including Rugby League’s Reg Gasnier, Olympian Raelene Boyle, triple Brownlow Medallist Bob Skilton and former Australian cricket captain Mark Taylor.

It supports a range of scholarships and fellowships to encourage future doctors and scientists to develop creative ideas that will help better understand and overcome cancer.  It also supports various hospital programs that make life easier for kids with cancer.

“Our involvement with Mark Taylor has opened up the opportunity for Fujitsu General to align itself with this worthy charity,” said Fujitsu General Manager – Marketing/Sales, Philip Perham.

“Our company wanted to contribute something back to the community that has supported the Fujitsu brand and we felt this was an ideal avenue for us to do so.

“We’re looking forward to helping Sporting Chance get a number of new programs off the ground. The founding members are very passionate about the organisation and excited to have the opportunity to develop it even further with help from Fujitsu General.”

Fujitsu began accruing funds last October for the Foundation against all sales of its air conditioners through its various retail and commercial channels.

While Fujitsu will make an official presentation at the annual Sporting Chance Foundation Celebrity Golf Day on Tuesday 19 September, an opening donation of $500,000 has already been given to the Foundation to expand its existing activities.
