Dick Smith has partnered with publicly listed content streaming service Quickflix to launch a new consumer promotion to increase sales in store and exposure to online video content.

For an in-store purchase $100 or more from an Australian Dick Smith outlet, including its Move stores and David Jones concessions, a consumer will receive a $47.50 voucher for an introductory subscription to Quickflix. After the voucher has been redeemed, consumers must roll-over their Quickflix account into a paid subscription — starting at $9.99 per month — they can’t simply redeem another voucher.

Stephen Langsford, chairman and CEO of Quickflix, told Appliance Retailer that it chose Dick Smith for this partnership because of its strong brand and national coverage.

“Dick Smith has a great brand, they’ve got great reach to consumers throughout Australia and New Zealand and they’ve got a great pedigree around devices and connectivity,” he said.

“One of the things for Quickflix streaming is that we’re seeing enormous take-up of consumers discovering their Smart TV, gaming console or mobile tablet; that they can also use those devices to stream services like Quickflix, so we think they are a great partner to help the consumer come on-board and get the most out of their devices.”

Langsford said that while Quickflix works with other retail partners to promote its service, this offer would be exclusive to Dick Smith. He said this was a relationship that Quickflix wanted to build on and that the Clever Dick expert service proposition can help unsure or nervous customers to become more tech savvy. “Dick Smith can help provide support for Quickflix customers around their devices,” he said.

Neil Merola, director of buying and marketing at Dick Smith, said that this offer will have broad appeal to Dick Smith customers, regardless of their inherent tech knowledge.

“Our customers are technologically savvy and keen to experience technology in a way that suits them best,” he said. “Partnering with Quickflix means more of our customers will be able to stream content whenever and wherever they like.”

The official release for this promotion did not state start or end dates for this promotion. The release implies that this promotion is only available to in-store Dick Smith customers in Australia; that is to say, there is no online or New Zealand availability. We’ve put these questions to Quickflix and will update this story as soon as we receive a response.
