David Jones has introduced its 2020 Home of Christmas campaign and rolled out its annual animated Christmas Windows at the Elizabeth Street flagship store.

The Home of Christmas campaign sees the festive season come to life in-store and online across gift wrap, gift cards, visual merchandising, and store windows, as well as exclusive gifts. In collaboration with Australian artist, Jessica Cruikshank, the campaign features the native Bowerbird famous for collecting shiny and colourful objects with the creative drawing a parallel to tree decoration and gift giving.

The animated Christmas Windows are courtesy of Australian author and fashion illustrator, Megan Hess and her children’s book character Claris, the Chicest Mouse in Paris.

Undergoing over 6,500 hours of work by specialists at Sydney’s Macgyver Studios, the windows reflect the fourth instalment of Claris, Holiday Heist – telling the story of Claris taking on a cat burglar in New York City – with hand-crafted characters and three-dimensional detail.

There will be Claris the Mouse merchandise available at David Jones including the Holiday Heist book, two plush toys, a tea set, birthday decorations and limited-edition Megan Hess prints. There will be a chance to meet Hess in person in early December with a book signing.

David Jones CEO, Scott Fyfe said the department store has been celebrating Christmas with Australians since 1838, and the 2020 campaign is about spreading joy and celebrating special moments with friends and family.

“The unveiling of the animated Christmas Windows at the Elizabeth Street flagship is a highlight on the calendar for us, seeing customers of all ages experience the magic of the season. We are delighted to be welcoming our customers in-store and online for the holidays and look forward to providing our signature David Jones service, however they choose to shop with us.”

David Jones will roll out COVID-safe measures for customer activity nationwide including to meet Santa in-store and virtually with the introduction of the David Jones North Pole Hotline. All in-store photography will be socially distanced with props and backdrops and managed by David Jones social distancing elves.

This Christmas, the David Jones grand piano will be installed on the ground floor of flagship stores featuring established and emerging musicians every weekend in November and December.

New to this year’s program at the Elizabeth Street flagship is Breakfast with Santa hosted in small sessions for children and their families to meet Santa in person.
