Australia’s two leading department stores have launched new Christmas TVC campaigns to encourage consumers to splurge on loved ones during the Silly Season.

Here is David Jones’ ad, which focuses on the Wow Factor:

And here is Myer’s 2013 Christmas ad, which focuses on giving, rather than receiving:

While both decent efforts, it is fair to say that neither came anywhere near matching the quality, production values and sheer magic of UK department store John Lewis:

So popular has John Lewis’ ad been in the United Kingdom that the song used, Lily Allen’s cover of Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know, debuted at #2 on the UK singles chart.

UPDATE: In its second week on the UK singles chart, Lily Allen’s cover moved to #1. That’s a UK #1 single for a song featured in an ad for a department store – imagine that from David Jones or Myer.
