With generous support from the home appliance and furniture industries, Beko national sales manager, Eddie Gaymer and Zinus country manager, Dan Pittman will participate in the seven-day Shitbox Rally driving from Melbourne to Alice Springs to raise funds for Australian Cancer Council.

Team ‘Dos Amigos Locos’ – Gaymer and Pittman – have purchased a 1998 Nissan Pulsar Plus to join the convoy of 250 vehicles making the journey to Alice Springs on 14 June 2024.

The Shitbox Rally challenges participants and their cars, worth no more than $1,500, on a seven-day drive across Australia to raise money for cancer research.

Not a race but rather an adventure with participants travelling at their own pace. Vehicles often break down but nobody is ever left behind and each night is spent camping under the stars and celebrating the day’s achievements.

Since its establishment 14 years ago, the Rally has raised over 40 million to support the Cancer Council and fund cancer research projects.

“We’d like to thank our platinum sponsors – Beko Home Appliances, Bi-Rite Home Appliances and Retravision – who all signed on for a top-level sponsorship and provided additional support through product donations for our fundraising raffle. The logos of these three platinum sponsors will be on show as we traverse the distance to Alice Springs,” Gaymer and Pittman said.

“We’d also like to recognise our gold sponsors – OMF (Original Mattress Factory) and El Burro Cantina, with El Burro Cantina our first sponsor and winner of naming rights for our shitbox, affectionately known as El Burro.

“Additional thanks to Iconic Recruitment who signed on as our final sponsor. We’d also like to thank friends, family, and supporters who have made this fundraising effort such a success.”

On 7 April, the team held a fundraising event at El Burro Cantina in the Gold Coast Hinterland to celebrate its supporters and raise funds for the Cancer Council.

“Our original goal had been to raise $10,000 but this target was quickly surpassed as our sponsors and supporters came on board. Following the event, our fundraising tally has exceeded $25,000 and we’re currently ranked third among all rally teams for fundraising.”
