Amazon is expanding its Amazon Hub network by launching in Perth, Western Australia and adding hundreds of new locations across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.

Independent research commissioned by Amazon Australia has shown that one in five Australians (19%) don’t have a secure location to leave their parcels at home and therefore prefer to have their package delivered to a parcel pick up location.

Further, one in five Australians (21%) prefer to have their orders delivered to a parcel pick up point rather than their home to keep it a surprise from someone in their household.

Amazon Australia director of operations, Craig Fuller said last year, most people spent more time at home than ever with nearly half (49%) of Australians also increasing their online shopping habits.

“Many of us are now returning to the office on a full or part time basis and have less consistency about when we will be home. We expect our expanded Amazon Hub network of more than 750 locations will be welcomed for the choice and convenience it offers, and we are pleased to be able to extend this network to our West Australian customers.”

After shopping on Amazon.com.au, customers proceed to checkout and select the Locker or Counter pickup point most convenient for them as their delivery location. As soon as their parcel arrives, customers receive an e-mail notification with a unique barcode and six-digit code that they’ll use to retrieve their parcel.

At the Locker, customers will scan the barcode and for Counter locations, customers will provide the barcode or the six-digit code to store staff, who will scan it, retrieve the parcel, and hand it to the customer. Customers have three days to collect their parcel from a Locker and seven days to collect their parcel from a Counter location.

Amazon Hub, along with doorstep delivery options, are available to Amazon Prime members at no additional charge. In addition, Prime members enjoy free shipping in as fast as two days on Prime eligible products, along with unlimited access to movies and TV episodes with Prime Video, alongside other benefits.
