Australian appliance service, repairs and spare parts business, All General Whitegoods, recently celebrated 30 years in the industry on a Sydney Harbour cruise with staff and their families.

All General Whitegoods was established in 1990 by two technicians, Max Hobbs and Scott Ferguson. At the time, the team consisted of eight staff – four technicians, one in spare parts, two in admin and a delivery driver and the only brand the company serviced was General Electric (GE).

Within five years, All General Whitegoods started servicing more brands including St George, Blanco, Teco, Menumaster and Lemair, and the number of staff increased to 40.

Over the last 15 years, more brands have been added including LG, Bosch, Sub Zero and Smeg.

“Business has had its difficulties over the last 30 years with many new brands and models, increasing customer expectations and a shortage of technicians,” co-founder, Scott Ferguson told Appliance Retailer.

“However, our strength lies in our staff and our supportive manufacturing partners. Together we provide great service to our joint customers. We are very proud of our strong family culture, which is reflected in many long-term staff, who share over 700 years of combined service.

“To ensure the future of the industry, we put on at least two apprentices each year who continue to work with us as employees or contractors.

“This year during Covid-19 business has been easier. There has been a higher demand for service work with everyone in lockdown. There was less traffic for our technicians and no cancellations as people were always at home. We have been at full capacity each day.

“Our future is to focus on high-end product. Our KPI’s are next day service and same day service for non-cool fridges. Lastly but most importantly, we treat our customers as we would like to be treated.”
