A man and a woman have been arrested after their Campsie home was found to contain over $750,000 worth of home entertainment items, allegedly gained from a fraudulent credit card scam.
On Friday 9 January 2009, police raided the house in Sydney’s South West, and seized in excess of 3,000 items, ranging from computers, laptops, cameras, electronic games and various retail gift vouchers.
Police became aware of the situation only days earlier when they received a public tip-off claiming that there was suspicious behaviour in the area.
The 33-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Campsie Police Station where he was later charged with six counts of recklessly dealing with the proceeds of a crime, and has been refused bail.
While the 29-year-old woman who was also arrested, has been released and is currently assisting police with further enquiries.
Campsie Local Area Command Duty Officer Inspector Matt Hanlon, said, “Police have disrupted an alleged major fraud operation and successfully ensured the disposal of the property.
“Police warn anyone who participates in similar illegal fraud-related activity, they will be investigated and dealt with under the law,” Inspector Hanlon said.
