SYDNEY, NSW: Audiovisual distributor Convoy International announced two new managerial appointments to its Australian Multimedia team on Friday.

Coming from previous roles with consumer electronics manufacturers and distributors such as JVC, Teac, Plantronics and Altec Lansing, Matthew Paris will step into the newly created role of Brand Development Manager – Multimedia.

Convoy CEO Geoff Matthews said Paris was the perfect candidate to expand the company’s emerging headphone and speaker categories.

“With an enviable track record of achieving results at supplier level in the multimedia space, I am confident that Matt has the business acumen and category knowledge to continue the upward momentum of our Brands in the Australian consumer electronic marketplace,” Matthews said.

Also coming to Convoy in a newly-created role is Sohan Karunaratne, who has been appointed as Sales Manager – Multimedia.

With previous experience in sales roles at Harvey Norman, Karunaratne will be charged with developing relationships with Convoy’s business partners and expanding the company’s current distribution model.

“We are delighted to have Sohan to drive sales for our multimedia audio business,” said CEO Geoff Matthews.

“With specific experience in the mass-market retail environment and a strong understanding of sell-through strategy, I’m confident that Sohan will play a vital role in strengthening Convoy’s computer speaker, docks and headphone business.”

In other news, Convoy brand Bowers & Wilkins has been nominated as a finalist for the Australian International Design Awards.

Bowers & Wilkins’ new wireless iPod speaker system, the Zeppelin Air, features iPod and iPhone connectivity as well as Apple’s AirPlay technology, which allows users to stream music from their Mac or PC direct to the speakers.

The product was selected from 232 Australian and international entries to the Australian International Design Awards, with winners to be announced in an awards ceremony on 22 July 2011.
