The Lenovo Yoga Book 9i is the world’s first full-sized OLED dual screen laptop. It takes multi-tasking to the next level with new modes and comes with several accessories in the box including a folio stand, magnetic Bluetooth keyboard and digital pen for added convenience.
The Yoga Book 9i impresses right out of the box featuring a tidal teal aerospace-grade aluminium with rounded edges and a mirror finish, reflecting the brand’s commitment to an environmentally friendly future.
With sustainability at the forefront, the laptop is Carbon Neutral certified*, EPEAT Gold rated and ENERGY STAR 8.0 registered. Not only is the cover made from 100% recycled aluminium, but the packaging uses FSC paper and the power adapters are made with recycled plastics.
Beyond its beautiful look and feel, the Yoga Book 9i is super lightweight at just 1.34kg and measures just 15.95mm in thickness, which is impressive given its dual screen design.
The two symmetrical 13-inch touchscreens fused onto Corning Gorilla Glass 3 promise strength and scratch resistance, which is an important consideration when the laptop is likely to be on-the-go with you. The glass surface also delivers maximum light emission and minimal reflections, which was noticeable when using the device outside or next to a window on a sunny day. Finished with an anti-fingerprint coating, smudges on the display are less prominent.
In addition to enhanced brightness (up to 600 nits), the OLED display offers improved contrast and colour covering 100% of P3 and sRGB colour space for accurate reproduction of one billion colours. Dolby Vision HDR certified, the display is capable of delivering bright and vibrant colours, wider colour contrast and optimised brightness.
Another benefit of OLED displays is less blue light emission – up to one-third of LCD displays – which is key for reducing eye strain as we use our screens more than ever. Each display’s brightness can be adjusted independently and there is a dedicated Eye Care mode which ensures blue rays are filtered for added eye protection. Enabling ultra-wide viewing, the two displays boast 92% screen to body ratio in 16:10 format, meaning you can view more content with less scrolling while web browsing or reading documents.
The 360-degree hinge allows the laptop to be set up in a range of modes. My favourite mode was book mode, which allows the laptop screens to be in portrait orientation side by side. As a journalist, it made it more efficient to research and compile news stories at the same time. Another useful mode was tent mode, ideal when presenting during a meeting, as you can view the document on one screen and the audience can see it on the other screen to effectively share information.
In traditional laptop mode, two full-sized windows can be displayed when the keyboard is dismounted. Alternatively, you can view one full-sized screen and a secondary window when the keyboard is connected. It’s also easy to access the virtual keyboard – simply tap either display with eight fingers, and for the trackpad, tap either display with three fingers.
The Yoga Book 9i features a new and improved Windows Hello 5MP IR camera. In basic settings, you can adjust brightness, contrast, sharpness and saturation levels. You can also change the image resolution quality with the best option being 3.7MP (2560×1440) and resolution quality for videos with the best option being 1440p 16:9 at 30fps – a step up from the traditional 1080p HD resolution.
In addition, Lenovo Smart Appearance allows you to enhance camera effects with smart configuration of facial features, background blur and more, while Presence Detection keeps the computer awake when in use and locks the computer when you move out of the camera range.
For peace of mind, an electronic camera privacy shutter cuts off connection to the camera for protection against unintentional activities.
The Yoga Book 9i also incorporates Bowers & Wilkins speakers, built into the rotating soundbar hinge and bottom cover, for authentic and distortion free sound. The quad speaker set up comprising two woofers and two tweeters delivers a wider range of frequency with extended bass, depth and clarity. The sound experience is further elevated by Dolby Atmos.
The laptop boasts up to 15 hours of battery life when running on a single display or up to 10.5 hours on dual display thanks to an industry-leading 80Whr battery. It also supports Rapid Charge Boost technology for up to two hours of video playback in 15 minutes.
Powered by the latest 13th Gen Intel Core processors, the Yoga Book 9i is engineered to take advantage of a full laptop experience and handle multi-tasking at its peak. The Intel Evo platform-based device is designed to optimise responsiveness, battery life, and connectivity for a seamless experience.
The Lenovo Yoga Book 9i is in a class of its own as a dual screen laptop. It can’t directly be compared with other laptops on the market – and I don’t think it ever should be. It is the most premium device I have had the pleasure of getting hands-on with and it did not disappoint. It is sleek, stylish and lightweight, offers a bright and vivid display, as well as an impressive sound experience, and makes multi-tasking a breeze. And who can forget the accessory inclusions, which are an added bonus.
Although it comes with a premium price (starting from $4,299 when it becomes available from July), it is totally worth it.
