BeefEater and Barbeques Galore founder, Peter Woodland has died in a helicopter crash near the NSW Snowy Mountains. The 75-year-old businessman was the pilot of the helicopter.

Woodland co-founded Barbeques Galore in the late 1970s and the specialist retailer now has more than 90 stores around the country selling BBQs as well as outdoor furniture and heating products.

In 1984, Woodland founded the BeefEater barbecue brand which quickly became an Australian icon. In 2014, Electrolux Home Products acquired the BeefEater brand from Woodland Home Products and integrated it into their portfolio.

In 2004, Woodland Home Products acquired St George Appliances from Kleenmaid, launching a new oven range to coincide with the brand’s 60th anniversary in 2007.

Australian food and cooking writer, journalist, author and commentator, Margaret Fulton helped re-launch St George Appliances, following the acquisition. Fulton passed away in July 2019.
