SYDNEY, NSW: The Federal Government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with NEC Corporation, with the two now committed to work together in the creation of the NBN.

NEC is one of the forgotten players in the consumer electronics sphere, though it has remained heavily active on the commercial side, especially in aged care and transport.

"The Gillard Government welcomes the opportunity to work with NEC, a leader in research and development, and innovation, in Australia to capitalise on the drive towards the digital economy," said Senator Stephen Conroy, the Minister responsible for the NBN.

"Like the MOU signed with Intel in October 2010, this agreement formalises work with NEC. It further signals the Government's intention to collaborate with industry to deliver an NBN-enabled digital economy.

"NEC brings a wealth of experience in the application of emerging technologies to improve the delivery of products and services, such as broadband access systems, advanced robotics for aged care, and road to vehicle communication systems."
