SYDNEY: Philips has announced the release of two new widescreen portable DVD players to be made available later this month.

The two new models, the PET725 (RRP $329.95) and PET825 (RRP $449.95), will both feature the new Zero Bright Dot technology, which ensures images are free of ‘blank spots’ or ‘bright dots’ commonly found on portable LCD screens.

Offering two screens sizes, 7-inch widescreen for the PET725 and 8.5-inch widescreen for the PET825, the new models come with increased battery life compared to Philips existing portable DVD players, with up to four hours and six hours battery life for the PET725 and PET825 respectively.

The portable DVD players also offer high playback capabilities with DVD, DivX, DVD+/-R, DVD+/-RW, S-VCD, MPEG4 and JPEG formats all supported. Dolby Digital surround sound is also featured as well as MP3-CD, WMA-CD, CD-RW or audio CD playback options.

Both players will come bundled with a travel case, remote control, AC/DC adapter and a 12v car adapter and also feature dual headphone jacks.
