Third-party service provider, My Rewards, previously used by The Good Guys Concierge program, has experienced a data breach, likely to have occurred in August 2021. The Good Guys own IT systems were not involved in the incident.

Encrypted passwords used for My Rewards accounts, along with contact details provided to The Good Guys for a Concierge membership, may have been accessed via the My Rewards IT systems, including name, address, email address and phone number provided in December 2017.

My Rewards has confirmed that no personal identity documents or financial information such as driver’s licence, passport or credit card data is held by My Rewards for Concierge members or involved in the breach.

The Good Guys no longer uses My Rewards to provide member benefits and My Rewards accounts linked to Concierge member benefits have been closed.

“We are extremely disappointed that My Rewards has experienced this breach and we apologise for any concern that this issue may cause you,” The Good Guys managing director, Biag Capasso told Concierge members in an email.

“We recommend that you are alert to the potential for scams or other suspicious activity by email or phone and we recommend that you do not use the password that you used on your My Rewards account on any other account. We suggest that you use strong, unique passwords that are changed on a regular basis, and that you consider the use of an automatic password manager.

“If you have questions or concerns, our Help Centre (www.thegoodguys.com.au/help-centre) has more information, a link to live chat support and the phone number of a dedicated support team.”
