Sony will launch the latest addition to its 1000X series, the WH-1000XM5 wireless noise cancelling headphones, bringing new technologies designed to improve audio quality.

Sony claims the WH-1000XM5 deliver the company’s best noise cancelling capabilities yet, thanks to two processors controlling eight microphones that reduce noise in the mid-high frequency range and an Auto NC Optimiser which optimises noise cancellation depending on the environment.

The Integrated Processor V1 unlocks the potential of Sony’s HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1 and the 30mm driver unit enhances noise cancelling, while improving sound clarity and bass reproduction. A premium lead-free solder containing gold for connectivity and optimised circuitry promises clear and consistent sound with every track.

With Sony’s audio coding technology, LDAC, music is restored back to high range sound with the use of DSEE Extreme that upscales digital music files in real time. The headphones are also 360 Reality Audio certified for a more customised music experience.

Sony’s Voice Pickup technology uses four beamforming microphones and an AI based noise reduction structure to isolate voice with precision, while a newly developed wind noise reduction structure minimises wind noise during calls.

Thanks to Speak-to-Chat, users can stop for a conversation and the headphones will automatically stop the music and let in ambient sound and then resume the music afterwards.

The WH-1000XM5 introduces an evolution in style with a new noiseless design in a newly developed soft fit leather and stepless slider to reduce pressure on the ears and block out more external noise.

The headphones also integrate Quick Access to configure them to resume Spotify playback with two or three taps without the need for a smartphone. Sony’s Headphones Connect app allows users to compare sound pressure data recorded by the headphones with guidance of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and receive notifications when listening at sound levels that are too high.

The WH-1000XM5 are compatible with Google Assistant and Alexa and can be paired with two devices at the same time. They boast 30 hours of battery life and deliver three hours with just a three-minute charge when using USB Power Deliver.

The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones will be available from late June for SRP $649.95 and come with a collapsible carry case.
