Smeg Australia managing director Wayne Campbell has announced his retirement from the industry after 48 years.
Campbell informed staff last Friday that he will continue in his role until the end of this calendar year – which is also the end of the Smeg financial year.
Victorian state manager and head of Smeg’s MDA agency business, Gabriele Flisi, has been confirmed as Campbell’s replacement.
“I have been in this industry since I was 17 and after 48 years it is time to spend some more time with my family and in particular my mother,” Campbell told Appliance Retailer.
“Vittorio Bertazzoni and Smeg Italy understand the reasons for my decision and are supporting me through the process.
“I told my team that I have really appreciated working for an amazing company. Smeg has a unique culture that was in place from the day I started with the business and I am very proud that I have been able to continue that culture,” he said.

Campbell joined Smeg 17 years ago and was appointed managing director in early 2021.
Prior to joining Smeg, Campbell was both a franchisee and business development manager at Harvey Norman. Prior to his time as a retailer, Campbell worked for suppliers including AWA Thorn, Toshiba and Mitsubishi.
