More than half (52%) of Australians say that they plan to spring clean their homes this year, and part of this includes ‘digital refreshing’, the disposal, replacement, or upgrading of home appliances, according to new data from Samsung Australia.
The data shows that 43% plan to dispose of, or replace, digital display such as TVs and monitors, 32% plan to dispose of, or replace, home appliances including fridge and washing machine, while one in five (20%) plan to dispose of, or replace, mobile devices.

Over half (53%) of Australians want appliances that complement their home aesthetic and 19% say they will upgrade their appliances to impress guests to their home. One-quarter (25%) and nearly one-third (32%) of Gen Z also confess to feeling embarrassed or judged for outdated or mismatched appliances.
In addition, 51% say high energy consumption is their number one appliance-related frustration, and consumers are turning to smart, connected devices that save time and energy.
Despite 50% planning to dispose, or replace, their home appliances and digital devices, 51% say they do not know how to correctly dispose of, recycle, or correctly pass on their household items.
Gen Z and Millennials are least likely to feel confident in knowing how to dispose or recycle their home appliances or digital devices. Just 40% Gen Z and 48% Millennials know how, compared to 62% Gen X and 69% Baby Boomers.
