Printer manufacturer Brother International is taking printing out of the office, thanks to today’s launch of the Brother PocketJet 600 portable printer. The range includes four models, each with a variety of connectivity and internal-storage features in a compact-shape that is just over 25 centimetres wide.

“Investing in mobile printing technology increases productivity on-the-go while impressing your customers with the ability to print documents whenever and wherever needed,” said a Brother International spokesperson.

“Imagine being able to close a deal on the spot by printing off documents for your clients to sign while their interest is high in your product or producing an immediate invoice, service report or delivery note.  The possibilities and advantages are limitless.”

Rather than using ink cartridges or toner ribbons, the PocketJet 600 relies on thermal print technology, which allows for a compact footprint and reduces the risks associated with ink spills. The printer uses specially coated thermal paper that passes over a heated print head, and as the paper reacts, it turns black to create the printed pattern.

The printers each feature a rechargeable battery and a USB adapter, with an AC adapter and car adapter available for separate purchase. It is compatible with Windows and Mac, and each model weighs under 500 grams (without battery or paper).

Four models are available in the range: the PJ-622, PJ-662, PJ-623 and PJ-663. The first two models offer 203 x 200 dpi printing resolution, while the latter two offer a resolution of 300 x 300 dpi as well as just under 6MB of memory. Aside from USB connectivity, the PJ-662 and PJ-663 also support Bluetooth.

“PocketJet fits easily into a briefcase or computer bag, and can be mounted in vehicles or other work areas,” said the Brother spokesperson. “Because PocketJet prints in A4, it’s considered ideal for printing documents where more detailed information is required, such as invoices, service reports and delivery notes.”

According to Brother the device has a range of applications, including use in field sales and service, logistics and deliveries, and in public safety and emergency service industries.

The PocketJet portable printer is available for RRP $499 to $679, depending on the model.
