Harvey Norman executive chairman Gerry Harvey didn’t know anything about the event LG publicised  to take place at the Harvey Norman Caringbah store on Friday 30 November 2012.

“I don’t know anything about it,” Harvey told Current.com.au when asked for his side of the story regarding the non-existent media appearance that LG Electronics said he would make.

This story began yesterday afternoon when LG’s external PR company sent an invite to media to attend the first sale of an Ultra High Definition TV in Australia. LG promised that Gerry Harvey would personally transact the sale at the Caringbah store.

Harvey, however, said he hadn’t heard about it and was, instead, admiring the new TV at Harvey Norman’s Auburn store.

“I was at the Auburn store watching the product being put in,” Harvey said. “I think it’s wonderful and I think it will sell.

“It might not sell in all stores but it will sell in some stores – some of ours and some of our competitors’.

Harvey said the new LG Ultra High Definition TV – the most expensive in general retail at RRP $15,999, would sell in flagship Harvey Norman stores such as Balgowlah, Penrith and Moore Park, as well as the Auburn store he was in and the Caringbah store at the centre of this strange episode.

There’s also promise in major regional areas such as Wollongong and Newcastle, but Harvey didn’t hold similar high hopes for his country stores.
