There's no better place to observe some unusual appliance designs that at a trade show. We've previously showcased the Craziest Rangehoods from Milan and the most Outrageous concepts from Grand Designs Live – in that spirit, here are our picks for the most eye-catching coffee machines from the Melbourne International Coffee Expo (MICE).
This Franke fully automatic coffee machine includes a dedicated syrup drawer, a hopper for chocolate, full touch and swipe control panel and the ability to make around 180 cups per hour. Best thing: it's only ~$24,000.
The Expobar Carat is definitely the 'silverest' machine at MICE.
The Mirage Veloce by Kees van der Westen includes 'aircraft quality aluminium pieces'.
From the same Kees van der Westen stand is this showpiece machine. The removal of the hood gives delegates an idea of just how many pipes are utilised in a coffee machine. This range is distributed locally by Toby's Estate.
The Belle Epoque from Elektra: for around the $11,000 mark you too can be transported back in time to the days of Boniperti, Pandolfini and Frignani.
And for those that prefer 1950s America – the days of Jan & Dean, the Bel-Airs and the Trashmen – Elektra has this surfin' blue Creme Caffe model.
Those that like clear, square lines and the Arsenal colours will like the Sanremo Zoe.
So this is just a regulation Breville espresso machine – but it is signed by Def Leppard (one assumes drummer Rick Allen used his right hand) – and it can be yours by bidding in Breville's eBay auction, which is raising money for Coffee Kids.
And our prize for the most out-there, eye-catching crazy coffee machine at MICE goes to:
The Hario Coffee Syphon is not roomfill from Breaking Bad, it's a Korean coffee machine that produces a delicious cup – according to the gentleman in the background cooking up the latest batch.
