Following the collapse of Retravision Southern earlier this year, a number of retailers have managed to add former Retravision Southern stores to their ranks and boost their total group numbers. One such retailer is Betta Stores Retail – owner of the Betta Home Living retail chain – which has picked up more than 30 stores.

According to the company’s CEO, Graeme Cunningham, all these new stores are set to bring plenty of positives to the Betta brand.

“From a coverage point of view it gives us more coverage, certainly in Melbourne,” said Cunningham. “Better coverage in those areas means, from a marketing point of view, we’ll be able to do more cost-effective marketing in Melbourne or Victoria generally.

“Then in other areas around Australia, as we pick up Retravision members, it’s meant that we’ve got better coverage, so we get extra savings in marketing and the stores are getting better coverage from that marketing.

“We’ve always wanted to be the home for the small to medium retailers, and even some large independent retailers. That’s what we’re doing. So the good thing is that we’re delivering better value to all the stores and members as we grow.

“But also, the obvious point is that it increases our buying power and our relevance to the industry.”

Cunningham would not be drawn on exactly what that new buying power would be in terms of a dollar value, saying that BSR had only just acquired the new stores and the company would “wait and see what that actually equates to”.
