SYDNEY, NSW & LONDON, UK: Marc Newson, the man behind Smeg’s latest style of premium cooking appliances, has been hired to design the fireworks display for Sydney’s world-famous New Year’s Eve 2012 spectacular. Newson’s PR co-ordinator confirmed this news Tuesday evening.

This revelation is a major boon for Smeg, with these fireworks attracting enormous publicity both throughout Australia and across the globe. Sydney is often cited as having the best New Year’s Eve pyrotechnics display in the world.

Once the public relations machine for this year’s celebration ramps up, Newson’s profile in Australia will increase phenomenally. This will add enormous interest to Smeg’s new range.

Current.com.au understands that Newson, who was born in Sydney but now works out of London, will be visiting Australia in the spring to plan for this event. During this time, Smeg Australia will be looking to have him promote the new Smeg Marc Newson range.

Newson’s commercial design credentials include work for Dom Perignon, G-Star, Qantas, Samsonite, Tefal and Alessi.
