Myer is currently searching for an alternative location for its Brisbane CBD store in Queen Street Mall, after it was unable to renew its lease beyond July 2023. The department store has been the anchor tenant of the Myer Centre since 1988.

“While we remain committed to the Brisbane market, we have been unable to negotiate a reasonable commercial outcome with the landlord and as such will continue to look for an alternative CBD location,” Myer CEO, John King said.

“We thank our team members for their service and will be providing redeployment opportunities at nearby stores. We also thank our customers for their ongoing loyalty.”

Myer will continue to serve the Brisbane community through its Indooroopilly, Chermside, Carindale and Mt Gravatt stores, as well as online, while the search is underway for an alternative CBD site.

Owner of the shopping mall, Vicinity Centres and ISPT said the centre will continue to operate and plans without Myer will be announced soon.

“We were investigating a number of options for the centre including a downsized contemporary department store and plans without a department store, which we can now progress with certainty,” a statement said.

“We look forward to delivering a re-imagined destination in the heart of Brisbane’s evolving CBD and anticipate sharing our plans shortly.”
