SYDNEY, NSW: Panasonic will use the upcoming PMA exhibition in Sydney to launch what it claims is the world’s smallest and lightest interchangeable lens system camera: the Lumix DMC-G3.

This Micro Four-Thirds model will have a 16-megapixel Live MOS sensor and Full HD AVCHD video recording. Here’s Panasonic spokesperson talking up the G3’s features:

“The G3 is designed for outstanding photography with impressive resolution, image rendering and colour reproduction.

“Panasonic has redesigned the high-sensitivity signal processing to take advantage of the new sensor, with the result that low-light images taken at high ISO sensitivity settings are stunningly clear and sharp.

“The Precision Contrast AF System achieves the world’s fastest level of 0.18 second and Pinpoint AF combined with touch-control shooting ensures focusing is faster and sharper than ever. The new mechanical shutter achieves four frames per second consecutive shooting at full resolution.”

Very convincing stuff, though we’ll have to wait until PMA kicks off on 25 June 2011 to properly assess this new model. No RRPs for the G3, which will be available in Australian in July 2011.

The new Panasonic G3 will be launched at PMA in Sydney in late June.
