UnderCurrent is a big fan of the humble toasted cheese sandwich. And while flat-plated Panini presses and cafe style grills have been popular in the small domestic appliance market in recent years, the old-school sealed jaffle is making a comeback, thanks in part to the relaunch of Breville’s classic toasted sandwich maker.

The Original ’74 jaffle maker is hitting retail stores, and with it, consumers are getting the opportunity to try out the recipes the Breville’s crack team of home economists have devised to bring a modern take on traditional toasties

UnderCurrent got its hot little hands on the recipe book which is bundled with the relaunched Original ’74 and is very happy with what’s inside. There are both savoury and sweet creations, some of which have been developed with the Sydney Food Truck Jafé Jaffles—creators of the famous David Jafflehoff and Jean Claude van Ham toasties.

Here are two of our favourites (click images below for a larger size with recipe). But of course, the full range is only available with the purchase of an Original ’74 (BSG1974, RRP $99.95).
